I've known I did not want to be a designer. Sewing and sketching just did not seem like it was for me. But I still had to take a an art studio class for my Fashion Merchandising major. Not only did I love my end results but it sparked a creativity I never knew I had. We worked with all types of media including watercolors, photoshop, and drawing. When we started painting, I felt like a disaster. But the way you can change the end result into anything you want is what I loved. I could cut my painting into a design or I could write quotes on top of it. I especially loved creating mood boards through photoshop. This class taught me that I don't need to be a designer to sketch here and there. Even if my sketch isn't turned into a design, as long as it inspires me that's all that matters. Sketching and painting relaxes me and helps me think outside the box for my own outfits. So don't limit yourself based on your exact career path and the skills you "need" to know. Seek inspiration everywhere!
